Tournament Etiquette
 

 
Forms/Kata

  1. Bow in; ask permission to enter the ring
     

  2. Execute form with precision and total commitment
     

  3. When done, step back, bow to the next competitor, step back and bow out
     

  4. Watch the other competitors as they are executing their forms and give them your undivided attention
     

  5. Applaud accordingly
     

  6. Consciously await recall for scores
     

  7. Final group competitors bow
     

  8. Talking to other competitors loudly, while someone else is still competing, may result in a lower score due to your distraction
     

  9. Judges consider distractions to competitors
     

Weapons Forms/Kata

  1. Follow the above etiquette
     

  2. For brown/red belts and below only, if weapon is dropped once one restart is allowed, however, judges must be asked for permission before restarting
     

  3. For brown/red belts and below only, if a second error occurs the competitor must bow out
     

  4. For black belts only, no restarts are allowed; bow out
     

Sparring

  1. Bow to your competitor
     

  2. Bow to the center judge
     

  3. Wait for start signal, fight!
     

  4. If center judge stops fight for an injury: Turn outward at starting position and bend to one knee while center judge determines continuation of competition. Wait for center judge to determine outcome of injury.
     

  5. Offensive techniques while the aggressor has one foot out of the ring usually result in no point being awarded
     

  6. A competitor running out of the ring once or more than once can cost the competitor running out of the ring a point loss and even a disqualification.
     

  7. Keep your techniques clean and within the rules.
     

  8. Make sure you and your instructor understand the rules before the match begins.
